Welcome to Atelier Otubu!
I know, I know, it’s not the easiest of names to remember, but it perfectly sums up what this small studio in the heart of Peckham is about. You see, my name is Etemi Otubu, I have been sewing for myself all my adult life, and I am now ready to share the sewing love in all kinds of ways in this little atelier.
If you fell in love with a dress that’s way out of your price range, just knock on my door, chances are, I can make you a similar one.If you’d like to learn how to make it yourself, even better, I’ll teach you how to do it. When I am not sewing for others, or teaching you lovely people how to make gorgeous clothes that fit you like a glove, I will be creating clothes by giving new life to some already beautiful garments (watch this space!).
Why not start 2019 with a fun AND useful resolution: learn to sew! Check out the upcoming classes below.
Hey, I’m Etemi,
I was born in Budapest and I moved to London in my early twenties. I bought my first sewing machine as a Christmas present to myself, and once I learned how to make a cushion cover there was no going back.
The first garment I ever made was a fully lined backless dress, which looked perfectly fine, but I am still amazed how it did not fall apart while wearing it… Since then, in the past 10 years, I have taken several dressmaking and pattern cutting classes, and I have been sharing my makes on my blog, The Secret Costumier, in the last 5 years.
